Joinville and Villehardouin
This volume contains two famous Old French chronicals. Villehardouin's Conquest of constantinople presents an authoritive and resonably objective history of the Fourth Crusade, which ironically turned into an assult on the christians of the Orthodox Church. Joinville's Life of Saint Louis, on the other hand, which was inspired by the memory of a beloved king, is an intmate and vivid record of the author's experiences during a later Crusade and of the curious customs of the East.
