Hato Hone St John is part of a global organisation. The governing body of St John worldwide is its Grand Council.
Prior
The position of Prior in New Zealand is traditionally held by the Governor-General. At present, our Prior is The Rt Hon Dame Cindy Kiro, GNZM QSO DStJ. The Prior is supported by the Chancellor, who is her deputy.
Priory Chapter
Priory Chapter oversees the ethos of the organisation and approves the strategic and financial direction, recommends change to international policy and conferral of honours and awards.
Priory Chapter is chaired by the Governor-General, as Prior of the Order in New Zealand, or by the Chancellor as deputy.

Priory Trust Board
Priory Chapter is responsible for all of the work of Hato Hone St John in New Zealand but delegates authority to the Priory Trust Board to oversee day-to-day activities, including the activities of the Regional Trust Boards. There are three subcommittees which focus on remuneration, risk and audit and clinical governance. Priory Trust Board appoints the Chief Executive.

Chief Executive
The Chief Executive is responsible for leading and managing the organisation, with the support of the Executive Leadership Team. He also has responsibility for maintaining relationships with our key funders and government agencies acting on behalf of the Government. He reports to the Priory Trust Board.

Regional Trust Boards
Region Trust Boards are made up of dedicated volunteers who serve Hato Hone St John in a governance role. Members of Region Trust Boards are elected or appointed for set terms. Their role is primarily focused on the support of community health services and community engagement. The Boards work alongside Hato Hone St John’s grassroots volunteers in communities to help meet the health needs of Aotearoa New Zealand.
