She has carried out a range of volunteer roles over time, most recently as the Priory Officer Hospitaller, advocating for the Ophthalmic services St John provides in the Middle East. 

Sonya has spent her career primarily working for health and social service community-based organisations. She is a Director at PwC supporting health and service organisations with strategy and operating model design. 

Brought up in Ōtepoti, she now lives in Lower Hutt with her husband and two children Isla and Maisie
