St John confirms that an ambulance was involved in a single vehicle accident on Park Road at 11.44am today after mounting the kerb and hitting a bus stop.
The ambulance was carrying a patient in a status three (moderate) condition to Auckland Hospital. The patient’s condition was not affected by the accident.
No other vehicles were involved. St John immediately responded to the accident, with three additional ambulances and other resources.
Three people who were waiting at the bus stop were treated as patients. They were assessed as status three and four on scene (non-life threatening moderate/minor condition). These three people along with the original patient have been taken to Auckland Hospital for further assessment.
Senior St John Territory Managers are currently at Auckland Hospital supporting these patients.
The three ambulance officers aboard the vehicle involved in the accident are shaken but uninjured and receiving support.
“We are supporting our staff involved in this accident and our thoughts are with the patients and their families at this time,” says Norma Lane, St John Director of Clinical Operations.
“St John takes the health and safety of our patients and ambulance officers very seriously.”
St John is investigating the incident and working with New Zealand Police.
