Māori TV Te Kāea report: St John Ambulance staff community heroes
Reporter Wepiha Te Kanawa spoke with some committed members of the St John Ambulance team. This piece aired on Christmas Day.
Te Kāea wishes to acknowledge the superb job St John does in our communities both as volunteers and paid staff. St John ambulance officers respond to more than 400,000 patients a year and encourages more Māori to be a part of the organisation.
They are the front line of our emergency medical services throughout NZ, working tirelessly 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
The responsibility they hold is vast. You could say they're the unsung heroes of our communities.
St John has around 17,000 volunteers and staff and receive around 400,000 emergency calls annually.
Māori staff and their presence in the Māori communities has added extra value to their service.
