Hato Hone St John was alerted to a fire at the ambulance station address in Cromwell at 4.33pm, 30 December 2022. Two off-duty ambulances have been heavily damaged by the fire. The cause of the fire is yet to be determined. The fire has now been extinguished.
The ambulance station has not sustained any damage and is still operational. No staff, patients, or members of the public were present at the ambulance station at the time of the fire and therefore no injuries have been reported.
The main Cromwell ambulance was not present at the ambulance station and is still fully operational and available to serve the region. Other resources and vehicles are also already available and fully operational in the short term. There is no impact to our service in the Cromwell community and surrounding areas.
Hato Hone St John takes the health and safety of our patients and ambulance staff very seriously. We will continue to investigate the incident and work with Fire and Emergency New Zealand and New Zealand Police.
