St John Spokesperson: Eddie Jackson, Central Region General Manager

In the early hours of this morning (approximately 12.30am) a female ambulance officer was on route to a patient call out in Hamilton East when she was flagged down by a male member of the public to help another male on the ground.

These two males were joined by another two youths who assaulted and chased the ambulance officer who managed to alert Ambulance Communications and Police.

The ambulance officer was not injured.

St John vehicles do not routinely carry controlled drugs.

St John takes very seriously the safety of its officers and has procedures in place to ensure their security and well-being.

We are working with Police and supporting our officer.

Another vehicle was assigned to the original incident call out.
