Hato Hone St John Central Region covers Waikato and the Bay of Plenty and the bottom of the North Island. Extending from Mercer in the north to Wellington in the south and including both the East and West Coasts.
Hato Hone St John Central Region is one of three regions in New Zealand that work to prevent and relieve sickness and injury, and act to enhance the health and well-being of all people throughout New Zealand. Each region is responsible for Hato Hone St John activities within its boundaries. The regions work alongside over 150 area committees who support the work of Hato Hone St John at a community level.
Hato Hone St John Central Region serves communities throughout the North Island by delivering an extensive range of services and products in the health and health-related fields. These services and products include:
- Emergency and non-emergency ambulance services for approximately 90% of New Zealand's population.
- Emergency care and first aid at public events
- Friendship and support over the phone to the lonely and the housebound through the caring caller service
- Transport for people to their health appointments
- First aid training and health-related products and services to the community.
- A youth programme where young New Zealanders from six to 18 years old can learn first aid, health care, self-discipline and general life skills in their communities.
- Friends of the Emergency Department service where volunteers give their time to support those who are being treated in hospital emergency departments or their families
