Caring Caller is a free service where our friendly volunteers make calls to individuals feeling lonely, offering companionship and support. For those whose loved ones live far away, we provide reassurance that their family member is receiving care and friendship.
Our dedicated volunteers are trained to provide support tailored to each individual's needs, ensuring safety and respect. If you'd like to learn more about our service standards, please contact us via email.
Proudly sponsored by ASB, who have long supported and participated in the programme, many ASB staff volunteer as Caring Callers. ASB is committed to expanding the programme's reach and diversity, helping us grow and better serve our community.
What does a Caring Caller do?
Creates friendships
Our callers often make lasting friendships with their clients based on shared interests like gardening, reading or sport.
Support when needed
Having someone call and ask about your day can make all the difference if you're not well or a bit low, especially if it's hard to go out.
Peace of mind
It's nice to have someone check on you, especially if you don't know many people , or your whānau and friends can't visit much.
It's free
Caring Caller is fully funded by koha (donations) from people who care, so it doesn't cost you anything.
"My daughter recommended I get a Caring Caller over 12 years ago. I have had the same caller ever since and she has become a wonderful friend. She calls me every week. It's not as lonely having my Caring Caller, we have so much in common. Sometimes it's just nice to know someone is there." - Mavis
