The Waka Ora Health Shuttle is a koha (donation) based community service, delivered by volunteers, that transports people to health and wellbeing related appointments, and then brings them home again.

Supporting independent living
No need to miss essential appointments or ask friends and whānau to take time out of their day. Waka Ora Health Shuttles are a great option if you don't drive, if public transport or taxis aren't available where you live, or if you can't rely on them.

We can arrange to pick you up from your home or another meeting point to take you to doctors visits, dental appointments, specialist appointments, day-surgery, or any other type of health or wellbeing appointments. We're here to make it easy for you to get to your important appointments!

Special transportation
Some of our shuttles are fitted with hoists or wheelchair access, for clients with limited mobility.
Donations are appreciated
There’s no charge to use the Waka Ora Health Shuttle but we welcome and appreciate koha. The service is funded by voluntary koha from people who use it, community contributions and the generosity of who donate to us.

One of our newest Waka Ora Health Shuttle services is in Matakaoa. The service was launched at a time where the devastation from Cyclone Gabrielle was still impacting the area, and our Waka Ora Health Shuttle provided a solution to those who faced increased challenges attending medical appointments. Located at the tip of the East Cape, patients often have to travel hours for health appointments. Watch the video below to find out how our service is impacting the community.
